Workshop Description:

In times of great turmoil, people need the words of poets to help them understand the things that they are feeling, the thoughts that whirl about in their heads, the dreams that lie tantalizingly just outside of conscious awareness.

Poets give us the words we need to understand the things that we otherwise just move past because…life.

In this workshop, we’ll look at the role of poets in this moment as elucidated by poets of both the past and present. The contribution poets make, and the responsibility they bear to give us language and images that articulate our hopes and dreams, and guide our conversations and our actions. After that, we’ll work on poetry of our own which we can offer our communities as one of the ways we help build the world we wish to experience.

Omkari Williams is the Bestselling and Gold Nautilus award-winning author of Micro Activism: How You Can Make a Difference in the World (Without A Bullhorn). Her book helps readers identify their “activist archetype" and map a personal action plan for engaging in small, change-making activities with potentially big impacts.

She has worked as an actor, political consultant, and coach. A sought-after public speaker, she now welcomes all into the world of micro activism, a sustainable path to change-making based upon honoring the inherent dignity of all people.

She lives in Western Massachusetts where she enjoys being part of a vibrant community of artists.
