The National Association for Poetry Therapy Presents

An NAPT Cornucopia: A Savory Exploration of Food in Poetry!

facilitated by

                             Ashley Schaaf (she/her), MA, APCC

Workshop Description:

Both food and poetry help us to savor the moments of our lives that can so easily slip by unnoticed. They are bites that touch our senses and our hearts. Join NAPT for a virtual event exploring these connections on Saturday, November 22 on Zoom, 1-3pm PST / 4-6pm EST. Upon registration for the event, you will receive a packet of 28 poems that explore food, eating, cooking, hunger, memory, relationships, (in)justice, and the connections in between. Each poem is accompanied by one or more prompts to serve as inspiration for your own writing.

You will be invited to digest the packet however you like. You can use chopsticks, a fork and knife, or dive in and get buffalo sauce under your fingernails. You can read and respond from beginning to end or scroll through and pause sporadically. You can take, leave, or modify the prompts as you are called. In other words, it’s an all-you-can-eat potluck. When we come together in our virtual space, we will share, feast, toast, and savor. We will have time to marinate in discussions of the collected poems and soak up pre-written participant responses like lady fingers in rum.
