How do writers experience war through words? What is life like in Ukrainian cities during the war? This presentation features first-hand accounts that include the bombings of cities, the attack on Kiev, and how Ukrainians are adapting to new conditions. How does poetry and other forms of expressive writing help civilians and the military? Does prophecy play a role in poetry? You are invited to this remarkable poetry reading followed by an interactive discussion exploring poetry and survival in a war torn country.

About the Poets.

Anna Liudnova is a poet, writer, art critic, and ethnologist from southern Ukraine. She heads the communications department of a non-profit organization that provides free educational services to Ukrainians. She is studying poetry therapy under the supervision of  Dr. Sherry Reiter in addition to working with Nick Mazza and serving on the editorial board of the Journal of Poetry Therapy (JPT).. She is an expert at the Ukrainian Institute of Books and has won several national Ukrainian competitions in video poetry, artistic reading, and journalism. She is a performer and co-organizer of the literary and artistic association IDentity project. Over the past year and a half, she has volunteered to support the Armed Forces of Ukraine and has documented the war. She has also started facilitating sessions with military personnel, their families, and volunteers.

Olena Bodasiuk is a graduate of the "Literary Creativity" program at Taras Shevchenko National University (Kyiv). She is a researcher of Malevich's suprematism and contemporary vers libre poetry. She has participated multiple times in the Art Arsenal and BookForum events. She is a laureate of national literary competitions and a member of the "IDentity project". She is a co-author of the poetic magazine "Logographic Poetry" (2019). She is the winner of the International Literary Competition "Granoslov-2021" and the author of the debut poetry collection "What Will Your Answer Be?".

Yaroslav Karpets (pseudonym Yar Levchuk, born July 23, 1988, Kyiv, Ukraine) is a Ukrainian writer, journalist, critic, volunteer, and radio host. He is a member of the National Union of Journalists of Ukraine and the National Union of Writers of Ukraine.
